Green Bay, WI - Homes for Sale and Community Information
Green Bay, Wisconsin is a city of about 105,000 residents situated at the mouth of the Fox River in northeast Wisconsin. It is a thriving, vibrant city that is energized by the presence of the former Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers. At the same time, it enjoys a balance of industry, financial services, and higher education. This Brown County community offers a wealth of activities to those that invest in Green Bay WI real estate.
French trapper and explorer Jean Nicolet first journeyed into this area in the 1600s. As a result, the name "Nicolet" appears time and again in the area. The Fox River creates an "east side" and a "west side" in Green Bay. Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers, is on the west side. The atmosphere across the city becomes electric every autumn as the NFL season commences.
At any time of the year, the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field is a "must-see" for families that move into Green Bay properties. Trace the history of the Packers from the days of Curly Lambeau. through the legendary Lombardi era, to the days of modern day quarterback phenoms Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. There's a kids area where a radar gun will measure how fast each child can throw a football. They can sit in the chair, clad in golden vinyl, that Coach Lombardi actually sat in as he was guiding his team to one championship after another.
Green Bay offers much more than professional football. Golfers can enjoy a number of courses that regularly host competitions. On the east side there is the private Green Bay Country Club. On the west side there is Brown County Golf Course, one of the better municipal courses in the state. Elevations changes, dense stands of trees, and ponds combine to challenge golfers of every skill level. A private, championship-level course on the west side is the Oneida Golf & Riding Club.
Owners of Green Bay WI homes also enjoy a world-class fishery -- the combined waters of Green Bay and the Fox River. In 2013, a Green Bay angler caught a 64-inch muskellunge from the waters of Green Bay. He photographed it and released it so another fisherman might have the thrill of trying to land this monster "muskie."
On the northeast side of town, near the shores of Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay (UWGB) is a major campus in the UW system. It traditionally fields a competitive basketball team, and there is a nine-hole golf course on the campus that dates to 1931.
Less than an hour to the northeast of the city is the tourist mecca, Door County. Cherry orchards come alive with color in the spring, and the fall foliage draws visitors from all over the state. Door County, with the waters of Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other, is a water lovers' paradise. Sailing, jet skiing, water skiing, boating, and swimming are all popular pursuits. All of the destinations in Door County are an easy day trip for those that invest in Green Bay homes for sale.
The prospective Green Bay home buyer will find that Green Bay real estate includes many older bungalows in the heart of town. Newer subdivisions offer Green Bay homes with all of the modern conveniences. In this more northern part of Wisconsin, rustic architecture is often intermixed with ranches, colonials and cape cods. There will even be an occasional modern log home on the market. The homes for sale in Green Bay also include custom designs on large lots.
